Painting To Start Soon
April 21, 2013 The students have been selected, the substrate material has been purchased, the paint has been purchased, and the art gallery has been obtained. The background material will be moved the art gallery April 23 with painting to start soon. Stand by for photos of the painting.
Mural Committee Meets with Mural Artist Rachael Dotson
February 13, 2013 - Rachael provided the mural committee with 70% drawings for the columns of the mural. The background will match the ribbon on the wall. The sides will portray a uniformed military person for the era of the column. There are seven columns WWI - WWII - Korea - Vietnam - Afghanistan - Iraq. The north and south sides of the columns will have people painted on the and the east and west sides, the narrow sides, will have the name of the column. (See photos of drawings)
Rachael presented an idea to have portions of actual letters written home by our service men and women. The letter will not identify the person that wrote it but will be an excerpt from a selected letter. The goal is to make the mural even more personal by showing that the people that serve are not just a a serial number but instead real people with scared caring families at home

Mike and Sharon Schooley Donate to Phase 2 of the Auburn Veterans Mural

January 16, 2013
Louie Lopez was proud to present Michael and Sharon Schooley with a set of six commemorative coffee cups of the Auburn Veterans Mural. The coffee cups were presented as a thank you for their very generous donation to Phase 2 of the Auburn Veterans Mural. The cups are photos of the mural depicting mural scenes for WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait, and Afghanistan/Iraq. The commemorative cups are being presented to major donors to the Veterans Mural.
The Auburn Veterans Mural Committee is making a special offer to American Legion Post 78 members only. Members in good standing can order one or more cups for only $15.00 each. The order can be a mix of cups, they do not have to be the set (pick and choose). Post 78 members can order the cups for friends and family through Louie Lopez, Rodger Birgen, using the post email auburnpost78@yahoo.com, or use the comment form on the post website http://www.americanlegionauburnpost78.com/send-comments-to-post-78.html . The cups are not in stock so please allow time to order the cups. The cups are printed in the United States.

Auburn School District, City of Auburn and Post 78 Announce Phase 2
The Auburn School District, American Legion Post 78, and the City of Auburn are proud to announce they have received the $12,200 to paint the mural on the Auburn School District Memorial Stadium. While the painting is in process we are launching into fund raising for phase two of the project. Phase two is to paint murals on the supports and add lighting to the project with an estimated cost of $10,000 and a dedication date on Memorial Day 2013.
Phase two goals are very similar to the original goals: 1) Paint the supports with people in military uniforms from various eras and branches 2) involve Auburn School District students in the project to afford them the opportunity to learn about military involvement 3) do the project through donations so we do not have to use funds from the already limited financial resources of the school district and city.
Thanks to generous donations and hard work of a few we were able to achieve our phase one project in near record time allowing us an aggressive schedule for phase two. Although all the details have not been completed the vision includes painting the seven supports to the stadium allowing for additional murals on four sides. The objective is to show the progression of military attire in both the men’s and women’s uniforms from WWI to current. The outside two pillars will have recognizable icons on them and the inner five columns will represent each branch of the service. Imagine being able to stroll through Auburn Veterans Memorial Park and seeing the 175’ timeline mural and then being able to see the uniforms of our military personnel up close and personal. The mural is not only an art form but also a history lesson that can be shared by adults and children of all ages.
Your support for this grass roots project that allows Auburn School District students to show off their talents in a public area is greatly appreciated. Updates can be seen at:
